A self-initiated project illustrating the following poem by Grace Nichols:

"I HAVE CROSSED AN OCEAN

I HAVE LOST MY TONGUE

FROM THE ROOT OF THE OLD ONE

A NEW ONE HAS SPRUNG"

The painting incorporates the text of poem into a seascape, painted in watercolour with hand-rendered text.
